Daddy Do-Over

Daddy Do-Over

OP. DR. YUNUS DOĞAN

What’s good for the goose…

Gender equity continues to be a hot topic in today’s society. There are aspects of our lives that have somehow been bestowed disproportionately upon one gender and not the other. We’re not discussing politics or religion here; let’s try to maintain a little historical neutrality.

Women have lobbied for equal compensation for performing the same professional work as their male counterparts. Men continue to have more access to education and to legal protection around the world. Some male employees have found themselves fortunate enough to receive paid time off after a new child has been born, just as their female spouses are entitled to.

In the last few decades, men have also been lucky to have access to similar medically rejuvenating procedures as women, should they so elect to receive them. Everyone ages, regardless of sex. Some of us pick up our feet and go with Mother Nature’s flow. And some of us dig our heels in and argue with Father Time.

So far we’ve discussed the traditional Mommy Makeover in our blog. As the name suggests, this combination of plastic surgery procedures are performed to help mothers reclaim their bodies after any physical deterioration due to childbirth. (And childless ladies can have this makeover too, to reverse signs of aging unrelated to offspring.)

A typical Mommy Makeover can include any combination of breast augmentation, breast lift, liposuction, tummy tuck, Brazilian butt lift (BBL,) and/or vaginal rejuvenation. All these procedures can help a woman look and - more importantly - feel rejuvenated. So what’s on the table for a male plastic surgery patient?

Have a good head on your shoulders

Let’s take it from the top, shall we? As men age, their hair can fall into certain patterns of growth and absence. Some men discover a migration from their head down to their ears and nose. When things get a little chilly on the roof due to lack of insulation, there’s always hair transplant surgery!

From the neck up

The “dad bod” isn’t just the belly. Men whose faces are a little chubbier now can have a bichectomy to lock in the jawline of their youth. This procedure removes fat in the facial cheeks and can give the patient a thinner, more chiseled look. Read this to learn more about getting more bang for your buccal (fat.)

Have you heard the one about your ears growing constantly throughout your life? We could call it an old wives’ tale but in the interest of this article, now it’s an old husbands’ tale. Our ears change as we age but they don’t keep growing. If men don’t approve of their ears’ evolution, they can add otoplasty to their Do-Over.

Not to get too nosey all up in their business, but some men want to reshape their noses as they feel gravity taking over. Rhinoplasty is another popular addition to the Daddy Do-Over, both for cosmetic and reconstructive purposes. As the Mayo Clinic suggests, men are 2-3 times more likely to suffer from sleep apnea than women. A nose job can help men get a good night’s sleep AND look their best.

Male breast augmentation

When we told you about gynecomastia, we explained it as a condition that males can grow out of naturally. Excessive fatty tissue in their pectoral area works its way out over time. Unfortunately, it can also come back to them like a manboob boomerang. (A mooberang?) Gynecomastia surgery can thin out and firm up those pecs.

After the gynecomastia surgery and/or liposuction removes the excess skin and fat and before you get to the gym to hit the bench press, you can get pectoral implants to make your chest impressive.

The common core

If that spare tire around your waist has you feeling broken down, change it out for a thinner belly with a tummy tuck. It’s a beautiful thing when moms and dads equally share parenting duties. But does baby weight need to be one of them? Putting on sympathy weight is such a noble gesture but so is losing that excess skin and fat together. Read more about tummy tucks here.

Thin it to win it

One of the most common plastic surgery procedures is liposuction. Interestingly, one of the most common elements of the “dad bod” is fat. Many aging men add 360 lipo to their surgical plan to thin out what the years have put on their midsections. Other body parts can be liposuctioned as well and we wrote a tight little article about it all.

The last stitch

We tell the ladies to reclaim their confidence throughout their lives. Be strong and in control of their inside feelings as well as their outside appearance. Maturity looks different to everyone and that’s ok. This advice extends to men too. Don’t be confused. You don’t technically need to be a daddy to get a Daddy Do-Over but if you desire to be called by that name anyway, the Do-Over can help.
