Mommy Makeover

Perking Up the Procreator/Beautifying the Birth-Giver/Remodeling the Madre (Mommy makeover)
Mother’s Day might be over, but
moms around the world work hard enough and deserve more than one day, don’t they? They’ve sacrificed so much for the well-being of their offspring, like sleep, warm meals, clean clothes and a consistent shower schedule. Let’s try to quantify more of the things mothers relinquish. Just for fun, let’s do it in alphabetical order: A is for an abdomen that’s not torn in two, B is for breasts that stay above the waist, C is carved calves, D for defined abdominal muscles, E equals elegant curves, F for full lips… . And we still have 20 letters to cover!Once a new baby arrives, his or her needs become top priority. Mom’s basic needs tend to fall by the wayside, let alone what some might consider frivolous desires like a body that feels and looks halfway decent. Children unfortunately don’t pop out with their own bank account and probably won’t even start saving for their own college education at least until age 8, resulting in a sweet little financial burden. Who in their right mind would ever shell out money for cosmetic surgery with a child living under their roof?
Self-care is a thing
YOU, that’s who. Social media is flooded with products, tips and advice on how you can - and should - take time for yourself. Soak up a bubble bath with some of your favorite music playing in the background, go get that haircut you’ve needed for over a month and for Pete’s sake, dust off that yoga mat. (Especially if your son’s name is Pete. He might be annoying and you could use a little extra Zen when HE starts up.)There are little things you can do that take very little time but can benefit your mental state. Self-care is not selfish, nor is it a waste of time and money. Taking care of yourself enables you to better take care of your family. Supporting your tribe can come at a cost. Most moms can postpone their morning shower or go without their monthly manicure, but some mommas are ignoring some bigger inconveniences, physical hindrances or limitations.
They may think they’re ignoring insignificant shortcomings, enduring unnecessary irregularities in the name of proper parenting. Actually, the wear and tear a woman’s body endures in childbirth and rearing can legitimately limit physical abilities, specifically in the three big B areas of the torso:
- Breasts
- Back
- Belly
Breast augmentation
Hey, our eyes are up HERE! Breasts can garner a lot of attention, unwanted or encouraged. They will certainly catch your baby’s gaze but what you choose to do with them is your decision. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends breastfeeding for at least the first six months, then possibly continuing this act of emotional and nutritional nourishment for up to two years.Regardless of your method of feeding your baby, your breasts will be affected. They will swell as your body naturally reacts to motherhood. They will deflate as time progresses. Eventually they may take a page out of your book and lose their natural perkiness. Can you ever reclaim that youthful spark and revive those girls?
Of course you can and you should. Breast augmentation is a general term for different kinds of plastic surgery that enhances and improves your breasts. People have sought out this surgery for years. Read more titillating details about breast augmentation in our Highlighting Series.
You can have excess skin and tissue removed with a breast reduction. This will alleviate back and shoulder pain and could result in comfortably smaller - or nonexistent - bras. You can remove excess skin and restore some perk with a breast lift, reintroducing your tatas to their initial place of origin. And if your love balloons have seriously deflated but you want to give them a little boost, consider breast implants.
360 degree liposuction
Can we just agree that sometimes it’s hard enough taking care of one infant, let alone multiple children and then ALSO managing ourselves? Society doesn’t always seem to be on our side with convenience foods that seem to save so much time. What we don’t think about is the trade-off: the time we save with that microwave burrito now could be deducted from our lives later. Unhealthy food choices have a way of catching up with us, manifesting in excess fatty tissue. If your clothes sizes have grown proportionately along with your child, you might be a good candidate for 360 degree liposuction. Get the skinny about 360 degree liposuction in our Highlighting Series. This plastic surgery procedure involves the suctioning of subcutaneous fat from your midsection, specifically your upper and lower flanks and abdomen. Remember that 360 degree liposuction will never remove any visceral fat that’s contained deeper within your body. For a little refresher about the differences between these two types of fat, feast your eyes on this.
Tummy tuck
A growing fetus can separate its mother’s abdominal muscles, resulting in diastasis recti, a condition that can leave the birthgiver weaker and with a saggy belly. The gap of separation between the muscles can decrease over time but this condition rarely fully heals on its own. A tummy tuck can remove excessive saggy stomach skin and repair the internal abdominal muscles. If you can stomach more details, read about the tummy tuck in our Highlighting Series. The last stitch
Plastic surgery continues to be debated on many levels, most commonly argued for and against based on “need.” Does anyone really “need” size G breasts? Why is looking like a real-life Barbie doll important? Who’s to judge the validity of what someone thinks they need? While there are plenty of purely cosmetic and aesthetic dreams that come true with the surgeon’s scalpel, there are at least as many physical ailments cured. Plastic surgery’s benefits can run further than skin deep. Love you like you love your kids. Grant yourself permission to reap these benefits.
